Healed of acute back pain

One Sunday, after attending the service at a Church of Christ, Scientist, I drove home talking about the service with my family. We were very happy with all the ideas presented in that week’s Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly.

When I got home, I felt a slight pain in my back. Immediately, I began to put into practice what I was learning through my study of Christian Science—that God is Spirit, and that I, as His image and likeness, am spiritual. I also thought about the fact that the divine Mind, God, is perfect, and that man is the perfect idea of this one Mind. And I reasoned that God, good, the only creator, never created pain, so He does not know it.

However, as the afternoon went by, the pain increased more and more. In the evening, my wife and I went to visit her parents, who live in a nearby neighborhood about 15 minutes from our house. About halfway there, the pain became so intense that I could no longer drive. During the night, I could not move or get out of bed.
