angels beckon

today
there is
an angel
beckoning
you

an angel
seeking
your attention

listen

“fear not”
it says,
“fear not”

think
Mary
Joseph
shepherds
Jesus
all were visited
companioned
by angels

and now what angel
ushers you
to behold
holy presence
to glimpse
a birth
a dawning

the Christ
speaking in stillness
and light
marking out a path
through darkness
luminous
even
in night

listen

this night
or morning
or unsuspecting afternoon
for angels

God’s glory
resting on you
with peace, with purpose
with all goodwill
