Effects of scalding accident quickly resolved
While dining in a restaurant, I was startled when something heavy landed on my head and lodged between my neck and the high-backed chair. Immediately, I felt a burning sensation on my neck and back. As I screamed, my husband saw that a coffeepot had fallen on me from the staircase leading to the upper level. By the time he managed to grab it, it was empty and I was drenched in scalding coffee.
Even though I could hear myself plead for help, at the same moment, I was conscious of a calm, reassuring thought: “If you refuse to participate in this scenario, you will suffer no ill effects.” I realized I could pray, right then and there.
We have a choice: We can rely on our spiritual sense to learn what is true about Life, or God, or we can go along with what the physical senses are reporting, which always leads to a limited or painful view of life. Relying on spiritual sense, I could deny that there was any reality in an accident and that I was a victim, because an all-loving God does not produce harm.
