No-fear parenting
We asked Laurie and Nate Frederick to share some insights with the Sentinel editors about their journey so far with parenting. This dialogue came from their home in Boothbay, Maine.
Nate: When parenting, you can be bombarded by opinions on the “right way” children should eat, sleep, learn, and do pretty much everything. No matter how much you give a child, it’s easy to compare yourself to another parent and think you’re not doing enough. There’s often a pressure to believe that your child won’t be healthy unless they eat this way, or smart unless they go to these schools, etc. But instead of thinking that health and happiness are caused by some external input, we like to flip the script and see that, as Christian Science teaches, health and happiness are already inherent in us as children of God.
