Christian Science healing: A unique approach

My grandfather was a physician, and I grew up in a medically minded household. When I started studying Christian Science as a young adult, I learned a completely different approach to dealing with health issues.

How did I go from taking 11 pills a day to relying solely on God for healing? Honestly, it wasn’t a conscious decision. As I discovered more about the true nature of God as Love and allowed this new sense of God into my life, I was just naturally able to trust God more.

My perception of God went from an “old man in the sky” concept—a person who was far off and unreachable—to an understanding of God as a loving, spiritual presence that’s tangible and always near. What I was learning as I studied Christian Science also shifted my view of the world from negative, dark, and hopeless to full of light, goodness, and promise. This change of perspective was based on this passage from the Bible: “God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). God’s creation is spiritual, perfect, whole, and glorious. And each of us is God’s loved child—entirely good, never sick, impaired, or imperfect.
