Spending time with God
When my eldest grandson (who calls me Omi) was eight years old, he surprised me one day by posing the following question: “Omi, do you know why I love coming to your house?” I replied that I had no idea. He responded, “Because I love spending time with you!” His answer touched me deeply, and it kept occupying my thoughts. Isn’t that kind of love the essence of true friendship?
So I asked myself, Am I just as happy about “spending time with” my dearest friend, namely, God? Do I look forward to my time with Him, who knows me and loves me more than any person ever could? I realized that to become conscious of God’s great love for me, from which I can never be separated, I must draw close to Him.
Isn’t my reason for daily studying the Bible and the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy—as well as for reading the Bible Lesson (found in the Christian Science Quarterly) and the Christian Science magazines, attending church services, and spending time in communion with God—that I love feeling God’s presence and listening for His guidance?
