Painful gums healed
On the Thursday before Good Friday in 2017, I went fishing for a catch suitable to serve at Easter Sunday dinner. Happily, I came home with enough fish for several meals. However, I noticed afterward that there was an uncomfortable cold spot in the area of my upper left gum.
I began praying immediately, reasoning that I couldn’t be harmed by the boat outing. I’d been engaged in a right activity, and I affirmed that there could be no penalty for that. I also reminded myself of my true spiritual nature as a child of God, Spirit. I knew that because God’s creation is wholly spiritual and good, evidence from the material senses—such as a gum crying “pain”—wasn’t fact. It was illusion and could not have any real power over me.
The discomfort remained through Friday, and I began to be concerned, as I was preparing a vocal solo and piano music for our church’s Sunday service on Easter. I persevered in my preparations, feeling confident that even if the cold spot was still there on Sunday, I would be able to perform.
