Divine Love, our help, is here
I have always enjoyed the outdoors, especially walking and hiking in beautiful areas of the country. The magnificence of the vistas and grandeur of the mountains are never lost on me. Wherever I go I’m filled with gratitude for these hints from nature of God’s spiritual, harmonious creation.
On hikes in the mountains, I often contemplate familiar hymns and passages from the Bible that are evoked by my surroundings, such as, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth” (Psalms 121:1, 2).
More than once, when facing potentially life-threatening situations in the outdoors, I have felt the strong hand of God delivering me from fear as well as from elements over which it seemed I had no control. At such times, I have been especially grateful for the teachings of Christian Science, which assure us that God is the only power, a present help in every circumstance, and that this divine power is a force for good, and only good. This is the law of divine Love governing each one of us, protecting us and guiding us to safety.
