Back pain gone, mobility restored
In the summer of 2017, I hurt my back a few days before a vacation trip and was having trouble getting around. Although I was praying about the problem and receiving prayerful treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, I wasn’t making progress. When it was time to leave, the pain was worse, and I didn’t think I could get out of bed. I wondered if I should cancel the trip.
Then the thought came, “If someone called you now and asked for Christian Science treatment for a similar condition, what would you say?” I asked God what I needed to know, and was reminded of a verse from that week’s Bible Lesson, found in the Christian Science Quarterly: “The Lord will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life” (Psalms 42:8).
This verse rang with God’s authority and almightiness. I pictured the sun as a metaphor for God commanding His lovingkindness in the morning. The sun rises, its rays piercing the darkness, and nothing can oppose it. Even if clouds temporarily obscure its light, the sun is still shining.
