Pain in leg and hip healed

One morning several years ago, I was suddenly seized with pain in my left leg and hip. Initially, I thought it would disappear as quickly as it had come. However, this was not the case. It was extremely painful to sit, and at my desk I could only kneel or stand. Driving my car was also very difficult, as I needed my left foot to operate the clutch.

I decided to prayerfully turn to God for healing, something I have done all my life. The previous week I had been listening to a recording of an article on the Lord’s Prayer from a Christian Science magazine. The author brought out clearly that we must acknowledge God as supreme over all. We must revere Him, because He is the only power there is. The Bible assures us, “I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me” (Isaiah 45:5).

I knew that I couldn’t honor God, Spirit, while at the same time being fearful of my body and its reports of sickness. This would be like bowing down to a false god or an idol. Mary Baker Eddy informs us in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “When we endow matter with vague spiritual power,—that is, when we do so in our theories, for of course we cannot really endow matter with what it does not and cannot possess,—we disown the Almighty …” (p. 119). I wasn’t going to be duped into believing there are two powers, Spirit and matter, good and evil.
