Child’s hearing loss healed; home found

I was a very busy mom with three young children. I was also running a day-care business and had many other responsibilities. My mom, who was concerned about me, was a soloist for and member of the local branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I attended very seldom, and really only to please Mom because I loved her. She never really talked about Christian Science, but one day she and Dad asked me if I would like them to ask a Christian Science practitioner new to the area to give me Christian Science treatment. They offered to pay the practitioner’s fees for me, as they could see the weight I was under. I jumped at it like the lifeline it was.

The practitioner prayed for me and guided my discovery of the truth of this Science through study of the Bible and the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I just couldn’t get enough. Each new thought was that “cup of cold water” (Science and Health, p. 570) I had been thirsty for. The mental confusion and depression I had been experiencing lifted right away.

I had often taken my kids to a gentle country doctor for shots because of frequent ear infections. The eldest child ended up having some hearing loss, and we were told she would probably need to repeat third grade. I asked the practitioner to specifically address this problem through Christian Science treatment, and the children no longer received the shots. Within about a month, none of the children had any more earaches. Our daughter’s hearing gradually returned, and she did pass third grade.
