Fear gone; flu symptoms vanish

Lately I have been feeling the need for a more tangible sense of divine Love’s healing presence when I pray for myself or others. I have been praying daily with the concept of Emmanuel, or “God with us” (Matthew 1:23), which Mary Baker Eddy refers to as “a divine influence ever present in human consciousness …” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. xi).

The proof of God’s presence was made very clear to me last fall, as I traveled to Florida with tools and equipment needed to make repairs to my little bungalow, which had been damaged by a severe hurricane. There were downed trees, flood damage, and a broken fence to repair. I was feeling anxious about how I would accomplish all the work projects on my limited budget. And on my long, cross-country flight, I began to feel feverish and weak.

When the plane landed at the Tampa airport, I felt quite ill and decided to book a room in the hotel located right by the airport. Since my bungalow was at that time occupied by tenants, my other option was to rent a car and drive nearly another hour to a friend’s house. I had planned to stay there while I worked on the repairs. Staying in the hotel met the immediate need and provided me with a quiet place, where I could rest and pray to uplift thought.
