Prompt recovery from a fall

This is adapted from a testimony originally posted during The Mother Church’s online Wednesday testimony meeting.

One day my husband and I were walking to our local farmers market with friends. We live in a town that has heavily cobbled roads and pathways with many potholes. My husband tripped into a pothole and fell to his knees. He seemed flustered, and as I helped him get back on his feet, I noticed that his hands and knees were badly scraped. We went to sit on a nearby bench, and shortly after that he lost consciousness and seemed to stop breathing.

As I gently cradled my husband, one of our friends—a fellow Christian Scientist—shared metaphysical truths with him. She loudly affirmed that he was God’s child and was not fallen—that in reality he was upright, whole, and free. It wasn’t long before he came to and opened his eyes.

Together we got my husband back home, where I dressed his wounds and spent the rest of the day quietly praying while he rested. I affirmed the spiritual fact that there are no accidents in God’s kingdom because God governs His entire creation perfectly. I considered this statement by Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God’s unerring direction and thus bring out harmony” (p. 424).
