Hearing clearly again
Last year I flew to San Diego, California, for a long weekend. After the flight my ears never “popped,” and I had difficulty hearing. I didn’t think much about it—I thought the return flight might fix the problem. Well, it didn’t. I had lost the hearing in my left ear.
As I have done all my life, I turned to Christian Science for healing. I wanted to better understand how to defend my thought in order to understand the nothingness of what Mary Baker Eddy calls animal magnetism and aggressive mental suggestion, so I did some study on that topic. But I was busy at that time, preparing for an upcoming event, and although I wanted healing, my prayerful work got put on the back burner. A month went by with no progress.
Finally I took time to pray earnestly and consistently for healing. I prayed with the Bible passage that tells us that “we live, and move, and have our being” in Spirit (Acts 17:28). I challenged the notion that I, as God’s spiritual reflection, could lose anything or be affected by material conditions such as altitude. I knew that I had never been outside of God’s protective care, as Psalms 139:8 assures us.
