Sudden illness healed
One day, about forty years ago, I went to work as usual, but shortly after arriving I began to feel unwell. I did not know what the trouble was, but as the day went on I began to feel very ill indeed and wondered if I should go home.
I was concerned that I might not be able to drive my car, as my legs began to feel very weak. However, I was able to drive safely and get myself home. When I arrived, I told my wife about the situation. She was also a Christian Scientist, and I knew she would help me through prayer.
Shortly after sitting down, I could not move my legs at all. Fear took over, and I tried to pray but could not think of even how to begin. Eventually I opened my Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, at random about four times. About the fourth time I opened Science and Health, my eyes lit on these words: “Denial of the claims of matter is a great step towards the joys of Spirit, towards human freedom and the final triumph over the body” (p. 242).
