Whom should I vote for?
I was thinking back to the first time I had the opportunity to vote in a presidential election. I took my responsibility seriously and decided to ask someone I respected to tell me what to do. I called a wonderful woman, who was a friend of our family. She happened to be a Christian Science practitioner and teacher. I was sure that, because she was a deeply prayerful woman, she could tell me whom I should vote for.
“You will have to examine your own priorities and reach your own conclusions, dear.” Her words were filled with the feeling of love I had come to expect from her, but her response was far from what I was hoping she would say.
Now, many years and presidents later, I have grown to see the wisdom in her words. We all need to think for ourselves and vote according to our conscience, while trusting God’s supreme government to be demonstrated more and more in leading all of us in the right direction.
