Finding Christian Science in South Korea

When I was a high school student in South Korea, my sister met a Christian Science family from the United States who were stationed at a nearby Air Force base. My sister became close with this family, and they gave her a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy as a Christmas gift. My sister finished reading the book in two weeks. I had never seen her read any book with such deep interest before!

I had a negative impression of Christian Science at first, until I was invited to attend a Christian Science lecture in Seoul, which was given in English. I did not understand much English at all, but after the lecture I began to attend a Christian Science Sunday School out of curiosity.

My first Sunday School teacher was an American Peace Corps volunteer who spoke fluent Korean. He told me in Korean that God is Love, Life, divine Principle. However, Christian Science healing still seemed a big mystery to me, as if it were miraculous instead of divinely natural. I came from a strong medical background, and I thought that miracles could happen sometimes, but not to me.
