Expecting healing—with every treatment
When we give a Christian Science treatment, whether for ourselves or for someone who has asked us to pray specifically for him or her, what are we expecting the result of our treatment to be? For some of us, the expectation might be too little. Perhaps we expect new inspiration, a spiritual uplift, or mere improvement in the physical condition or the situation that prompted the treatment. While these are all wonderful outcomes that often do, and should, occur as a result of Christian Science treatment, what about expecting full and complete healing? Is that too bold or ambitious an expectation?
It’s important to recognize that as Christian Scientists, we have solid ground for expecting total healing with each and every treatment we give. Christ Jesus healed countless people instantaneously, and he taught that we can do the same. And Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, demonstrated Christian Science healing quickly and completely many times, including for patients with severe conditions.
Jesus demonstrated the divine, eternal laws that bring healing immediately when understood. For instance, to the man afflicted with palsy, Jesus commanded with authority, “Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house” (Luke 5:24). And off the man went, rejoicing in his restoration.
