A quick return to school
Many years ago, as a young mother new to Christian Science, I was first learning to demonstrate the laws of God, and there were many lessons as I raised my children. One day, when my oldest son was in grade school, I was notified by the school nurse that I must come for him, as he had the measles.
I brought him home, and we turned to God, knowing that He is “a very present help in trouble” (Psalms 46:1). We acknowledged what we knew to be true about my son, including his innocence and purity as God’s child.
Mary Baker Eddy gives this spiritual definition of children in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “The spiritual thoughts and representatives of Life, Truth, and Love” (p. 582). This assured me that my son was the perfect reflection of God, His spiritual image and likeness, the full representation of divine Mind.
