The meekness that receives the Christ
Where meekness will receive him, still
The dear Christ enters in.
That sentiment, from the Christian Science Hymnal (Phillips Brooks, No. 223), rings as a reminder of two verses right near the beginning of the Bible’s Gospel of John. In speaking of Jesus, these verses say: “He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God” (John 1:11, 12).
