Injuries and fear healed

Recently, while studying Mary Baker Eddy’s article, “ ‘Choose Ye’ ” (see The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, pp. 3–6), I was especially drawn to her mention of these words of Christ Jesus: “ ‘He that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.’ ” And she goes on to explain, “We follow Truth only as we follow truly, meekly, patiently, spiritually ….”

The word “spiritually” most inspired me, and it reminded me of another statement Mrs. Eddy makes that I’ve prayed with often and is engraved on one of the walls of The Mother Church Extension. It reads, “We are Christian Scientists only as we quit our reliance upon material things and grasp the spiritual.” (The version of this statement published in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy reads, “We are Christian Scientists, only as we quit our reliance upon that which is false and grasp the true” [p. 192].)

These statements have helped me give earnest prayerful thought to the importance of not accepting false beliefs about existence as being material, with ills and accidents.
