Progress is a law
For centuries people have believed that to reach heaven and salvation, they should suffer and be poor. But such thoughts about God are changing. What kind of god would require suffering and poverty from his children in order to bless them? It is hard to love such a god. Yet the Bible declares, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might” (Deuteronomy 6:5).
Christian Science resolves this contradiction by teaching us what God truly is, and showing how a clearer understanding of God, and a love for Him, brings the spiritual progress and blessings we long for.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes, “God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 465). She explains that, as the infinite and only Mind or God, good is always present. Mind’s thoughts are never static, never obstructed. Mind is always unfolding its spiritual creation in complete harmony.
