An artist's healing
As a gallery artist I am sometimes asked to paint murals in commercial spaces. I had a large project coming up that extended to 15 square feet—this was to be a scene of the beach at sunset with as many dogs as I could possibly add.
To prepare for the project, my first effort was to be especially clear on who is the creator. God is the source of all creative power, I affirmed, and as God’s reflection I express unlimited ability and creativity. Therefore I could very naturally listen for which direction to go, how to go, and what to do.
A statement by Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures says, “Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source” (p. 507). As I was working out the artistic challenges that come with a large space, and thinking of color, composition, and light, this statement helped me immensely to see that God is always in control; Father-Mother God is the source of all. She is the “artist,” the creative source, and all glory and majesty belong to God. My job is to glorify God.
