Quick recovery from poison ivy

One Friday, while getting some bales of straw out of a barn, I apparently came in contact with poison ivy. By that evening my skin was itching relentlessly. I applied some anti-itch lotions and sprays, but they didn’t help at all, so I stopped using them.

In the Manual of The Mother Church, Mary Baker Eddy writes, “It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to defend himself daily against aggressive mental suggestion …” (p. 42). This disruption of my well-being was certainly aggressive, so I knew I had to turn to Christian Science for a healing.

The next morning I read the Christian Science Bible Lesson for that week, which was on the subject “Truth.” A helpful citation from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy caught my eye: “One’s aim, a point beyond faith, should be to find the footsteps of Truth, the way to health and holiness” (p. 241).
