Faithful defense and the liberty it brings

In the Bible we read, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (II Corinthians 3:17). In referencing this citation, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says: “Man is tributary to God, Spirit, and to nothing else. God’s being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss. ‘Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty’ ” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 481). I once had a memorable opportunity to prove this.

Many years ago while at work, I was suddenly struck with severe pain in my head and over most of my body. It was so sudden and intense that I had to sit down, and it was rather frightening and incapacitating. After a few minutes, I decided that I really needed to try to get home to my apartment in order to be more comfortable and to be able to get out of the public eye. My job required that I be in full view of many people, and I thought it best to be alone in dealing with this problem.

My apartment was within walking distance, and I was able, with difficulty, to get there, through the grace of God, I felt. However, once I reached home, I collapsed into a reading chair. I didn’t even seem to be able to think for myself very clearly. The pain increased greatly, and I was struggling to stay conscious.
