Eye problem gone
I’m grateful for a healing I had in college. Every once in a while, my eyes would get blurry and tired. I was concerned about my eyes getting worse.
I didn’t consider myself a dedicated Christian Scientist at that point, but I did know I could turn to God, and that, through reading and contemplating ideas from the Bible as well as Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I could find healing. So I decided that instead of waiting until the eye issue became a significant problem, one that perhaps would require some sort of medical attention, I’d pray about it.
Based on what the Bible and Science and Health taught me, I began to think about how God’s creation is spiritual, and that when we look at something, we aren’t really looking at a physical thing with physical eyes, we’re actually perceiving a spiritual idea of God. Of course it doesn’t appear that way on the surface, but that’s the spiritual fact which underlies our existence. And, there’s so much good in God’s creation for us to see! As I became more aware of that sweet, safe, uninterrupted, spiritual concept, I became less fearful about my eyes.
I do remember one day having a very clear realization of just how cruel it would be for God to make our vision material and limited, or for Him to force us to perceive things with frail means that could be taken away or interrupted. That was just so unlike the loving God I’d come to know, that I firmly rejected that cruel and false concept. I really think that was the turning point. As I continued to purify my concept of what was involved with seeing anything, and as I further contemplated the spiritual ideas related to vision, the blurriness and fatigue diminished and never developed into a more serious condition.
I’m long out of college now and have excellent eyesight. But I’m even more grateful for the opportunity to know the loving God who has given us vision, who maintains it spiritually, who enables us to reject cruel notions about Him, ourselves, and our neighbors, and who takes great joy in revealing to us more and more of His glorious, good, safe creation, here and now.
