In every place

I love hearing of healings that are directly connected to ideas from the Bible because I, too, have had many healings from studying its pages. Here’s one healing I had that continues to inspire me.

Years ago, I tripped on a sidewalk and injured my ankle. I prayed about it through my understanding of Christian Science and expected healing. But when a month had passed and the ankle still hurt, I became afraid that my prayers weren’t effective and I wouldn’t recover. I decided to spend that weekend focusing on overcoming these fears.

A few days after this, when I opened my Bible to study that week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson, I read where God spoke to Joshua: “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you” (Joshua 1:3 ). Joshua was about to lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land when God gave him this assurance. I then saw a deeper spiritual meaning in this verse and how it related to my situation.

The place on the sidewalk where my foot stepped represented a step forward that God had given me, and, therefore, it could not hurt me. Not that the concrete was special, but the fact that God’s goodness is present everywhere—even when appearances say otherwise. With that realization, the fear left me. By the end of the day my ankle no longer hurt, and I had full range of motion. Years have passed and this healing remains complete.
