What if each day were a poem?
“This is what we’re going to write today,
Dear child, so listen very carefully, because I AM
Will show you just the thoughts and syntax,
Even the punctuation for pauses and movement.
“There may be lots of temptations to overwrite
With embellishments too common to qualify for
A place in our poem-day. But staying close to my
Dictation you will see the precision of the words
“So that you can strike the extras out quickly and
Confidently, refusing to add anything to what I AM says.
The promise is that tonight you will be able to say to Me:
‘Thank you, God, for this most wonderful day together.’
“I AM commands only the loveliest of poem-days. And if
The night-dream wakes you cruelly, you must remember
To sing your poem, not just for yourself, but for anyone
Else who is up in the night and needing to remember
“That their life is just My most irresistible presentation
Of Me speaking your day, as the only life you have to live.”
