No more flu symptoms
This is adapted from a comment originally published on JSH-Online.com in response to the Question of the Week, “How have you prayed when confronted with either news of, or an experience with, contagion or seasonal illness?”
I used to struggle with seasonal flu. Although I experienced quick healings through prayer a number of times, I would sometimes just let the illness take its course, especially when things were busy and I thought I had no quiet time for prayer. However, one night almost ten years ago, I woke up feeling ill with flu symptoms and stayed awake despite many attempts to go back to sleep. I felt a strong urge to get up, get my Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, and study them. This impelling was so strong that I finally was obedient to it and switched on the light, got my books, and sat up in bed. I studied the Christian Science Bible Lesson, which was on Truth, for several hours that night. By the time my study was finished early the next morning, I knew that Truth, not error, good, not evil, was all that was real—and that there weren’t two opposing sides to existence. I felt reassured that God, good, is all and that there is nothing to oppose His power. I was healed—all symptoms were gone, and I didn’t even feel tired, but instead I felt energized.
In the years since then, I have sometimes had symptoms of flu or cold appear, but instead of letting them take their course and relying on time and rest to help me, I am obedient to the divine impelling to get up, switch on the light, and work and pray to know what is true. Fighting the suggestions of illness with the understanding of Truth and Love, rather than giving in to them, really works. I am so grateful for our Lord and Master, Christ Jesus, for the teachings of Christian Science, and for the love of God.
