You are not alone

“You are not alone”—four short words, but their message is powerful, comforting, and true. God’s omnipresence provides the guidance and healing thoughts we need to face and overcome challenges of whatever sort.

Such was the case one winter evening as I was driving through the mountains, when a few snowflakes turned into a blinding snowstorm. I cautiously followed car tracks on the unplowed, deserted highway. As usual when driving in inclement weather, I prayed nonstop, repeating the assertion from First John 4:16 that “God is love,” and adding my own declaration that “God controls and governs all action.” These prayers helped curb the fear and reminded me that God was in control.

Then, as I drove around a curve, I came across a rockslide covering the highway. I swerved to avoid the boulders, but one large rock became jammed under my car and was dragged along by the undercarriage. Because of the blizzard, I couldn’t see if there was a shoulder or a drop-off, so I couldn’t pull off to the side of the road, but I also didn’t want to continue driving as I didn’t have normal control or traction on the snow-covered highway. It was already nighttime, and I knew if I called 911 it would take quite a while for the respondents to arrive in that remote area. I felt alone and afraid.
