Snowblindness and vision healed

When I was in college, I was a member of the Christian Science organization (CSO) on campus. At one point, I invited other members to go skiing, encouraging those who did not know how to ski to come and offering to help them learn. We went on a very bright, sunny day. Though I had forewarned others to bring snow goggles or sunglasses to provide protection from the glare, I had forgotten to bring mine.

The glare off the snow was intense, but because I wanted to help my friends learn to ski, I continued to ski throughout the day without my goggles. By the afternoon, and into the evening, I was feeling some discomfort in my eyes from the glare. Upon awakening the next morning, I could not open my eyes to the slightest amount of light without intense pain.

I placed a phone call to a friend, who drove me to my parents’ home nearby. I also called and asked for prayerful help from my Christian Science teacher. It was comforting to hear her voice and to be assured of God’s love and protection from harm. I was not able to read because the pain was so intense when I tried to open my eyes, so I just tried to be still, to rest in God’s loving presence.
