Ringworm healed
With deep gratitude I want to share a healing of a long-standing problem. For five years I suffered with skin trouble on many parts of my body, especially in midsummer and midwinter. What bothered me most about this problem, which was diagnosed by a doctor as ringworm, was the marks it left on my face. They made me feel self-conscious about my looks.
For a while I used medicated creams to reduce the symptoms to some extent, but there was no permanent cure. I had had this problem for almost a year when a friend told me that Christian Science heals and invited me to attend a Wednesday testimony meeting at her branch church. After the meeting she gave me a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. My friend also introduced me to a Christian Science practitioner, and I felt impelled to talk to her about this problem there and then. I was astonished at her comment: “But I can’t see any ugly marks on your face.” She wasn’t speaking about my physical appearance. She was referring to my perfect spiritual identity as a child of God. Then she added, “God has made you beautiful.”
After that I diligently started going to Sunday Services and Wednesday testimony meetings at church, and I started applying the simple truths of Christian Science in my daily life. “The scientific statement of being,” found on page 468 of Science and Health, was a great help whenever I could not sleep because of skin irritation. After some time the practitioner suggested that I work on getting a better understanding of God as Love. She pointed me to many helpful passages from Science and Health, out of which this one touched me the most: “At all times and under all circumstances, overcome evil with good. Know thyself, and God will supply the wisdom and the occasion for a victory over evil. Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you” (p. 571).
