Calm Jettie

Recently, I tied my young horse, Jettie, to a wooden hitching post, which was about eight feet tall. She threw herself backward and tried to pull away. Instead of the halter breaking, the pole broke off at ground level. As Jettie moved backward, this large eight-foot pole was following her—and she was frightened!

I was riding another horse nearby and turned to God in wordless prayer. At this point, Jettie
was backing up quickly toward a barbed-wire fence. I firmly declared the presence of God’s care and government. Jettie turned, running parallel to the barbed-wire fence, and then stopped.

Now the challenge was to untie her lead rope from the pole (it had been pulled into a very tight knot by then) without Jettie pulling the pole over me or getting tangled in the lead rope. I said another prayer, declaring God’s protecting presence.

Both horses were being still now, but the knot didn’t budge. As I worked the knot, I declared, “God is my strength.” The knot loosened, and I quickly untied it. Both horses quieted down, calmly sniffed the hitching post, and we walked back through the fields together.
