Picture this: It’s seven o’clock in the morning on a typical gray, drizzly Seattle day. Where am I? I’m standing outside the front of my high school, holding the front door open for 2,000-some students, who are streaming in the entrance.

Except that everyone is avoiding me. They’re actually making a point to walk through the other doors.

How did I get here? It all started at the end of my junior year when I won the school presidential election. Over the summer between my junior and senior years, the entire student council (or ASB) was invited to attend a leadership camp. I loved the message I took away from camp: Love the student body you represent. My best friend, Andy, who had also been elected to the ASB, and I were completely on board. We left the camp inspired and ready to express love toward others.
