New in town and prepared to bless

The year I moved back to California from Texas, I had been looking for a place to teach school. I had begun correspondence with a principal there whom I immediately liked. She told me very kindly that there were no jobs in her district; in fact, people were being laid off at that time.

Having studied Christian Science for a number of years, I had the growing sense that my desire to bless others would guide my ability to be employed. I had been thinking deeply about the relationship between my willingness to follow God’s direction and the subsequent supply that would naturally follow. In this frame of mind, I was moved to call the principal the week before school was about to start. Imagine my deep gratitude when she said, “Please come down for an interview because our kindergarten teacher suddenly transferred.”

The year I taught kindergarten was a blessing—I loved my job. So it was disappointing when I received a pink slip the following spring because of district-wide budget cuts.
