Love is the healer

Some years ago, there was a small bone out of alignment in one of my wrists—it was visibly protruding. When it became uncomfortable, I called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful support, which promptly brought relief. However, the problem kept recurring. A short time later there was another challenge to face.

While walking across a big city intersection to the commuter train one very cold stormy night, I stepped into a pothole. To keep from falling before the light changed, I apparently put too much pressure on the little toe area of one foot because I felt something snap, and walking on that foot was quite painful.

When I finally arrived home, coping with both pain and immobility, I asked myself why I was suddenly so accident prone. This time, I didn’t call a practitioner but settled down with the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and began to do my own prayerful work. That’s what I did for the next week or more. The study was not a chore but encouraging and uplifting. I knew there was a spiritual lesson for me to learn, and I resolved to continue my prayer until that lesson appeared.
