Hope in the midst of foreclosure

Despite progress in some areas, the housing market in the United States continues to be weak with home prices falling 5.5 percent in 2010, and foreclosures looking like they will come close to the one million mark.

I work in real estate and am familiar with the process that homeowners go through when their house is foreclosed upon. It’s a procedure that can take years, and, right now, with many people facing some aspect of it, this situation deserves our prayers. One definition of foreclosure is to “debar from right of redemption.” Redemption refers to the act of “making good, fulfilling, as a promise.” So by foreclosing, the bank is taking away a person’s right to make good on the promissory note for their mortgage and thus removing them from their dwelling.

One thought that I’ve found helpful is that under divine law, no one can take away our right to make good on something or close us out of God’s abundant provision. Each individual is the spiritual idea of God, always at one with Him. None of God’s ideas can be evicted from the dwelling place of the Most High, God.
