Now I eat everything
First published in the French edition of The Herald of Christian Science.
When I was just a little child, I often had health problems. I had a lot of restrictions on my diet. I couldn’t eat mouambe* or chicken or herring or many other foods prepared with palm oil. Although I didn’t eat these foods, I would still easily get sick. But then I started attending the Christian Science Sunday School, and things changed.
I began to understand my true nature as a child of God—that I was the image and likeness of God, as the Bible says (see Gen. 1:26, 27). I realized that I had Christlike thoughts, too. I wasn’t getting sick anymore because I knew that everything God made is good and perfect. Good cannot produce evil, as the Sunday School teacher told us.
I saw how health does not depend on what you eat, and I wanted to be free to eat all foods. My uncle, who is also a Christian Scientist, told me that God never created restrictions, because He created everything perfect. So, we prayed, and bit by bit, I started eating all the foods that had been banned, without any bad results. Finally, I realized that I was free to eat everything.
