NOT A QUESTION OF TIME
• Time is on our side.
• Time heals all wounds.
• "I wasted time, and now doth time waste me" (the protagonist's lament from Shakespeare's Richard II).
You've likely heard at least one of these sayings. They all describe time as if it's a force that has a hold on us. But does it? And more specifically, is time a factor in healing?
The writers in this week's Sentinel have something to say about this. Nate Talbot points out in the lead article, "Underlying any loss is the question of time. When will we once more be whole happy, at peace, trusted, pure? We have the same thoughts the Psalmist had several thousand years ago when he pleaded, 'How long ... O Lord ... how long?'" (Ps. 13:1). And he concludes, "In a phrase, time and matter are false forms of mind. Real consciousness is immortal. Authentic healing solutions are not based on facets of mortality. Christ-healing is timeless."
Sandra Brooks tells how she proved these points with her healing of a longstanding skin condition, considered incurable, through dedicated prayer. She says the spiritual transformation she experienced has helped her tremendously in her work as a Christian Science practitioner. Also, Eugyne Mwoka from Kenya had a quick healing of a severe burn. When a neighbor asked what medicine he used, Eugyne answered that it was Christian Science.
Other features in the issue include our "In the Christian Science Bible Lesson" column, and a review of a new book by pastor, teacher, and songwriter Brian McLaren, who encourages readers to fearlessly grapple with deep theological questions, and pray with vitality and freshness.
We hope you savor each healing idea from this issue. And be sure to take your time!
WHAT I SAY UNTO YOU I SAY UNTO ALL, WATCH.—JESUS
The Christian Science Sentinel was founded in 1898 by Mary Baker Eddy, and its mission remains the same: "to hold guard over Truth, Life, and Love." The Sentinel continues to report on the unlimited ways that the healing power and presence of the Christ activates, uplifts, and transforms the lives of everyday people around the world.
