HEALING OF HEADACHES AND DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS

First published in O Arauto da Ciência Cristã, the Portuguese edition of The Herald of Christian Science.

For a long time I suffered from headaches and bad digestion. It was an almost daily challenge. Sharp pains prevented me from reasoning clearly, and I took pain medications to find relief. I also avoided foods that were not easily digestible.

At the time, a friend was reading Science and Health. What he said about the book caught my attention because it affirmed that everything happens first in thought, then takes form in the body. I was interested in the subject and asked to read the book. Days later he gave me one as a present, which I kept on my shelf for a time. Four years later, while reading some self-help literature, I found a comment about Science and Health and decided it was time to read the book.

Right at the beginning, the following passage made a big impression on me because it announced a very strong truth: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Science and Health, p. vii). I needed to lean on this "sustaining infinite," which I realized meant God. I tenderly recorded this idea in my thought and continued reading. As I did, I started to gain a new understanding about health.
