Our biweekly series on how people have nurtured their public practice of Christian Science healing.
PROMOTED TO SERVE
OFTEN I'M ASKED, "How do you like retirement?"—to which I enjoy responding, "I am calling it 'transitionment,' and I got a promotion!" This transitionment, as I call it, is from a career of over 35 years in the field of juvenile justice. Over the years I had countless opportunities to raise my consciousness through prayer and to see youth, parents, law enforcements, officers, and others as spiritual ideas of God.
Having been raised in Christian Science, I witnessed and heard many amazing testimonies of healing, which made a lasting impression on me. For example, my maternal grandfather, a frail boy, was permanently healed through Christian Science treatment of diagnosed tuberculosis. And my maternal grandmother was healed of infantile paralysis through this practical Christ Science.
While in college, I took Christian Science class instruction in order to learn how to heal better. Within the first year after this instruction, I found myself needing to prove my trust in God when my horse seriously injured her shoulder and could not walk correctly. As I prayed for her, I faced scrutiny from others, and a veterinarian predicted that I would not be riding the horse for a long time to come, if at all. But after a couple of weeks of prayer, not only was my horse walking perfectly well, but she and I performed beautifully in a large horse show.
