HEALING TRUTH FOR ALL TIME

Today I searched the word Comforter on the Internet. I was interested to see if there would be any references to that term as "the Spirit of truth," which, on the day of his last supper, Jesus told his disciples he would pray for God to send to be with them for all time.

Well, I didn't encounter any results of this kind (the first four screens of entries pertained exclusively to bedding). That wasn't particularly surprising. But it reminded me to be grateful for the unique and profound message of this Sentinel issue—that people everywhere have answers to any problem life could throw at them, through understanding the universal truth that Jesus taught. For well over 100 years, people have been practicing the Science of Christ, which Mary Baker Eddy discovered in 1866 and recognized to be that very Comforter Jesus was speaking of on that very day—the here-and-now truth that saves and heals humanity.

Our authors this week offer many insights on the topic. Jan Keeler talks about the healing power of "the Comforter in action," adding that it "may come to us in different ways, but it always reveals the true definition of who you are, who God is, and your relationship to Him" (p. 17). And she illustrates it with a healing she had through prayer. Mark Swinney gives us a Biblical context to the topic, discussing the timelessness of Jesus' life and teachings (p. 15). And Kathy Fitzer enriches this discussion, sharing the results of her own study and research (p. 19).
