DIVINE OPERATION

Inexorable light of Love, you probe
With laser fingers crannies of dark thought,
And blazon shadows into radiance, strobe
With ultraviolet light—by no eye caught—
Drab stone of habit till its surface flares
With purple streaks, bright sparkles, crimson glows.
I cringe as Love's illumination bares
My tawdry hopes, my wrath at fancied blows.
Shine into me, O God, despite my anguished plea
To escape Your purging, penetrating beams.
Blast my eyes open, compel reluctant sight
To gasp at glories of a sense made free
From blinding will and self-exalting dreams.
Then shall I burst—Your image—into light.
