GROWTH HEALED THROUGH PRAYER

A large, unsightly, and painful growth appeared on the underside of one of my index fingers, making typing or writing very uncomfortable, if not impossible. I thought about it once or twice but remembered healings that had come in prayer, of warts I'd had as a child. I felt certain that this could be healed just like those warts had been.

However, months went by, and though I was troubled by the situation off and on, I didn't pray about it in any kind of disciplined way. Instead, I just tolerated it, even occasionally thinking the growth would eventually just fall off.

One day it occurred to me that I was not consistently putting into practice what I knew to be law in Christian Science. This law is provable in human experience, and brings healing to discord and disease. I knew I needed to reject the testimony of the physical senses, which was claiming that there could be something beyond divine Mind's own ideal of perfection and utility. And I also needed to consistently replace that erroneous picture with the clear understanding of what I knew Mind had created—to mentally acknowledge that harmony, function, beauty, perfection, were right where this ugly growth seemed to be.
