SPIRITUAL HEALING FOR ALL TIME

This week's issue takes a look at Christian Science healing today—and always.

Several books in recent years have provided enriching perspectives on this topic, among them Mary Baker Eddy: Christian Healer (Yvonne von Fettweis and Robert Warneck). The authors explore what they describe as Mrs. Eddy's conviction that "the ability to heal as Jesus did, quickly and completely, through prayer alone, is found in a life grounded in Christ: a pure and loving thought that correctly understand and completely trusts God as the divine Father-Mother who fully cares for all His offspring throughout His creation" (p. xvi).

Allison Phinney's lead article (p. 6) takes this idea further when he writes that Christian Science healings are much more than the Divine responding to a list of human wants. They're our own realization of the great reality of God and all that means to us. When individuals find "the Science of God," he writes, "it naturally becomes the unquestionable priority of their lives."
