Not a lucky guess at all!
Sometimes you need guidance from God. That's what happened when I had to take the sixth grade standardized math test for my state the other day.
The night before I had to take the test, I cried because I felt that I wasn't good at math and that I wasn't going to do well. My mom told me about a time when she went to school and had to take a multiplication tables test. She was very nervous, but as she was waiting for the first question to be read aloud, she prayed to God. She thought about expressing infinite Mind, who knows everything. Suddenly she felt very calm, and the answer to the first question came to her before the teacher had even read it! This showed my mom that God knew everything, even things that hadn't happened yet.
Thinking about this helped me calm down. But the next day when I went to school, I felt just as nervous as the night before. My teacher told us to go and sit at our desks and wait for the tests to be passed out. As soon as I started on the test, I found that I was doing just fine.
Then I got to a problem that told me to draw a pictograph. I had no idea what a pictograph was. We hadn't learned that yet. I felt as though I was trapped inside the problem, and I felt scared and stupid.
But then I reached out to God and thought of a passage from Science and Health that I had memorized in Sunday School. It said: "The power of God brings deliverance to the captive. No power can withstand divine Love" (p. 224). This helped me because I knew God was there to help me get out of this problem.
Suddenly, I got an idea from God telling me to break the word pictograph in two—picture and graph. So I started to draw out my idea of a pictograph. Afterward, when my teacher read the tests, she asked me how I'd known what a pictograph was. She said I had gotten the question exactly right.
"Lucky guess!" I said. But in my head I actually thought, "That wasn't a lucky guess at all! That was a spiritual thought from God." css
