RUNNING PAIN-FREE AGAIN

This past summer I took a really nice run for three miles or so, which was a normal activity for me. Then that night I awoke with pain in one of my feet and couldn't sleep. I kept having horrible thoughts of what I thought it was and what the outcome would be. I was afraid that I would not be able to run anymore, and that it might be chronic. (Before becoming a serious student of Christian Science several years ago, I'd been a pilates exercise instructor and had studied anatomy and dealt with clients who suffered from this kind of pain.)

As I sat in bed that night, I knew these thoughts were anything but helpful, so I turned on the light and began to pray. It was clear to me that I needed to address the fear I was feeling.

I started my prayer by reasoning out from the all-good nature of God. Because God is Mind—one intelligence—I knew that Mind ordered and determined my thoughts, so I couldn't know anything about myself that God did not know. He wouldn't let some of His children get hurt while keeping others free from harm. There was no favoritism or luck involved—no predisposition to injury.
