ARM PERMANENTLY HEALED

My study of Christian Science has taught me the value of being spiritually alert and watching every thought. Mary Baker Eddy explained the importance of this in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously" (p. 392).

The following healing showed me how important this thought-watching is. About nine years ago, one of my forearms suddenly became painful. I prayed as I usually do, striving to see the spiritual facts about my being, but the pain and diminished mobility persisted. So I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me.

I'd heard that this kind of problem was exacerbated by winter weather, and I was tempted to think that when spring came, I'd have relief. But I realized that this was not a God-given thought and recognized instead the fact that God was the only Cause and made me in His image and likeness, entirely spiritual (see Gen. 1:26, 27). God did not, could not, create pain, regardless of the weather. I knew I needed to be alert to that truth, refusing to accept mortality and pain as mine, or part of who I was.
