WRONG IMAGE
I appreciated Georgia Bulloch's article, "I gave up smoking—for good," in the September 14 issue on healing addiction.
However, as someone who regularly picks up litter on beaches, and finds a substantial portion of that litter to be cigarette butts, I did not appreciate the photo that accompanied that article. It was only an image, but wouldn't a better image have been one that showed the discarded cigarette in a trash receptacle and not spoiling a beautiful stretch of God's creation?

NEEDED TO BE SAID
How I wish everyone could read the editorial, "Healthcare—and an important question," in the issue of September 28 ["Debt—There is a way out"]. It so clearly states the true healthcare as found in the Bible.
Thank you for saying something that needs to be said.

BIBLE-BASED HEALING
Thank you for the editorial, "Healthcare—and an important question" in the September 28 issue. It was such a strong statement on Christian Science.
To me it seems very important at this time that those who are not Christian Scientists understand that Christian Science is based on the Bible and Jesus' healings. This is so very needed by those who rely on reaching a doctor, hospital, prescription in a limited time rather than reaching out to God as their Physician. Very well written.

FED EVERY DAY
It's hard to know where to begin to give thanks for the Christian Science Sentinels and Journals. From the time I was able to sit up and take nourishment they've been feeding me. I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that some thought from one of them has brought me comfort and guidance every day of my life—although I may have missed a day in the 1950s somewhere!
In all seriousness, a big thank you to the editors, the writers, the publishers of two extraordinary magazines.

GOOD TO GO
In her article, "Carving out the 'grand and noble' life," Danis Collett Mutchler expressed a thought that each of us can realize if we are faithful. She says, "Then I got a very distinct message in my thinking:' I want you to see that you are capable of doing anything' " ["What's your model for living?" October 19].
I recall one time when I was waiting to go out on stage for my violin recital—a duet with a pianist. Just as I got up to exit the waiting room and walk out on to the stage, the G-string on my violin snapped.
Another performer, waiting near me, handed me her violin, without even a moment's hesitation. I was momentarily stunned because I knew that her violin was a Stradivarius, a very precious instrument.
Notwithstanding the fact that I had never touched this individual violin before, let alone played it, I accepted her offer and proceeded out on to the stage, where the pianist and I played our scheduled pieces.
When the evening was over, a woman in the audience told me that she had enjoyed my performance. Little did she know that I had played on an unfamiliar instrument. Since that time, I have remembered, with gratitude, that other young performer's unselfish act backstage which gave me the opportunity to prove that with God, good, we are each "capable of doing anything."
Thank you for this article and the other timely reminders in the Christian Science Sentinel concerning our model for living.
