ANYONE CAN BE A HEALER

'I'D BEEN PRACTICING ALL ALONG...'

I'VE LEARNED that wherever we are and whatever we're doing, it's normal and natural to share God's healing love with others. As I see it, this is being "in the practice" of Christian Science healing.

It's not a matter of "Some day I'll go into the practice" or "Some day I'll quit my job to pray full time" or "Some day I won't be afraid to help others." It's about seeing everything through the lens of Spirit and expressing the sterling qualities of God's love right where we are.

I like to think that I was learning to help others as a Christian Science practitioner from the time I was a toddler. Often, my mother talked to me about God's all-embracing love and how important it was to "stand porter at the door of thought"—to guard my consciousness from incorrect, un-Godlike thinking (Science and Health, p. 392). Our family said the "Daily Prayer" from the Church Manual (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 41) at mealtimes, and the last few lines reminded me to include the world in my prayers: ...may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!" As early as grade school, I liked listening to my peers and comforting them when they needed someone to talk to. As many healings took place in our family, I observed my mother's fearlessness and conviction as she faithfully lived Christian Science.
